As newcomers to this territory, we respectfully acknowledge that UNB is situated on unceded and unsurrendered lands of Wolastoqiyik. This territory extends from Maine in the southeast to Saint John where the mighty Wolastoq, also known as the Saint John River, meets the Atlantic Ocean.

The Treaties of Peace and Friendship signed in 1725 & 1726 between the British Crown and the Wolastoqiyk (“the people of the bountiful river") did not deal with the surrender of land and resources nor did it shift the ownership title to the Crown; rather, rules were established for an ongoing relationship between nations.
